Providence Bruins News Release

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 5-4 Tuesday night. Zach Trotman, Seth Griffith and Craig Cunningham scored for the P-Bruins, while Niklas Svedberg made 41 saves for the victory.

In the opening period, Providence started off playing conservative hockey, weathering the storm from the Monarchs. Both teams played sound defensive hockey and did not let up many opportunities as the game went into the opening period scoreless.

The action picked up in the second period as Manchester got on the board first, from the stick of Scott Sabourin. He received the puck along the boards from Ian O'Connor and shot it towards the net. The puck found its way through Svedberg's legs and into the net, just 2:45 into the period for Sabourin's ninth goal of the season. Vincent LoVerde recorded the second assist on the play. With time running out in the period, Trotman tied the game at the 18:22 mark. Griffith passed the puck to Trotman at the point, and he was able to get the shot through Berube. It was Trotman's second goal of the season, while Rob Flick recorded the secondary assist. The game went into the second intermission tied at one.

In the third period, the P-Bruins, on their first power play of the game, converted to take the lead. Griffith scored off the rebound from a shot from Justin Florek, for his 8th goal of the season. Joe Morrow recorded the second assist. Svedberg and the P-Bruins defense continued to be on their heels following the goal, as the Monarchs pressured and shot the puck whenever they entered the zone. Svedberg answered them all and held the Monarchs off the board in the period. Cunningham finished off the scoring at the 19:27 mark with an empty net goal, his 12th goal of the season. Carter Camper and Mike Moore picked up the helpers as the P-Bruins went onto the 3-1 victory.

Svedberg stopped 41 of 42 shots for the P-Bruins, while Jean-Francois Berube made 20 saves for the Monarchs. Providence went 1-for-1 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, January 3 at 7:05pm against the Worcester Sharks. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a poster courtesy of J & R Marketing. For tickets to this game or any other P-Bruins home games visit www.providencebruins.com .
