
Glendening to Detroit, Jurco to Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday recalled center Luke Glendening from the Grand Rapids Griffins and assigned right wing Tomas Jurco to their AHL affiliate.
Glendening has skated in 18 games with the Griffins during his second professional season, producing 12 points (5-7 - 12) and 18 penalty minutes. Last night, the 24-year-old native of East Grand Rapids tallied two goals in the Griffins' 4-3 shootout loss to the Toronto Marlies at Comerica Park, the first-ever outdoor game in franchise history. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound forward made his debut with the Wings on Oct. 12 versus Philadelphia, when he became the 133rd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL. Glendening tallied his first NHL point with an assist on Dec. 17 versus Anaheim and has also produced 14 shots on goal and four penalty minutes in 16 games.
Detroit's 1st choice (35th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Jurco, 21, leads the Griffins in scoring and ties for 13th in the league with 27 points (11-16 - 27) in his second professional season, including his first professional hat trick against the Rockford IceHogs on Nov. 15. A native of Kosice, Slovakia, Jurco made his NHL debut on Dec. 15 in Detroit's 3-0 loss to Tampa Bay, becoming the 138th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound right wing tallied his first NHL point with a goal on Dec. 17 versus Anaheim and has generated three points (2-1 - 3), 14 shots on goal and two PIM in seven games with the Wings.
The Griffins will host the Chicago Wolves on Friday at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Arena.
