LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

vs. Portland (12/26): Goaltender Louis Domingue stopped 34-of-35 shots to shut down the Manchester Monarchs en route to a 4-1 Portland Pirates VIP Cup victory at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Thursday evening. Left wing Maxim Kitsyn scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Centers Brendan Shinnimin and Andy Miele joined left wing Lucas Lessio's two tallies on the scoreboard for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender J. F. Berube (12-5-2) took his fifth loss of the season stopping 16-of-19 shots. Domingue (3-0-1) earned his third win of the season stopping 34-of-35 shots. Manchester was 0-for-1 on the power play. Portland went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

vs. St. John's (12/28): Netminder Eddie Pasquale stymied the Manchester Monarchs for 59 minutes of the game as the St. John's IceCaps took the game, 3-1, at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday. Left wing Nick Deslauriers scored the lone goal for the Monarchs. Defenseman Will O'Neill, right wing Andrew Gordon, and center Adam Lowry scored for the IceCaps. Monarchs netminder J.F Berube (12-6-2) took his sixth loss of the season making 22 saves on 25 shots. Pasquale (12-9-1) picked up his 12th win of the season, stopping 35-of-36 shots. Manchester was 0-for-2 on the power play. St. John's went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.

vs. Hartford (12/29): Center Linden Vey and left wing Tanner Pearson each collected three points as the Manchester Monarchs snapped their two-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Hartford Wolf Pack at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday. Left wing Andy Andreoff, right wing A.J. Gale, and right wing Brandon Kozun lit the lamp for the Monarchs. Right wing Jesper Fast and defenseman Danny Syvret scored for the Wolf Pack. Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube (13-6-2) earned his 13th win of the season making 25 saves on 27 shots. Wolf Pack netminder Dov Grumet-Morris (3-9-3) took his ninth loss of the season, stopping 6-of-9 shots. Goaltender Jeff Malcolm made 12 saves on 14 shots in relief of Grumet-Morris. Manchester was 1-for-3 on the power play. Hartford went 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (22-7-1-4) are ranked first in the Atlantic Division with 49 points. The Providence Bruins (16-10-1-5) sit in second place in the division with 38 points. The St. John's IceCaps (16-12-1-2) are in third place in the division with 35 points. The Portland Pirates (12-11-1-4) are tied with the Worcester Sharks (13-12-2-1) for fourth place in the Atlantic Division with 29 points, each.

The Monarchs are ranked 27th in the American Hockey League on the power play with 17 goals on 131 attempts. Manchester is ranked 14th in the league on the penalty kill stopping their opponent 128-of-153 times.

Manchester's undefeated record on Saturdays came to an end with their 3-1 loss to the IceCaps on Saturday. The Monarchs have a record of 11-1-0-1 on Saturdays.

The Monarchs were undefeated on home ice, 6-0-0-0, throughout the month of November, and collected a 9-2-0-1 overall record for the month. Thus far in December, Manchester is 7-4-0-1.

Center Jordan Weal (8-19') leads the Monarchs with 19 assists and 27 points.

Weal is tied for seventh place in the AHL with 19 assists each.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (8-17=25) ranks second on the Monarchs with 17 assists and 25 points.

Kozun ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs categories:

Goals - 76 - third place

Assists - 98 - fourth place

Points - 174 - third place

Power Play Goals - 24 - third place

Game-Winning Goals - 17 - first place

Shots - 512 - ninth place

Left wing Nick Deslauriers (11-10=21) ranks third on the Monarchs with 21 points.

Deslauriers is tied with left wing Tanner Pearson (11-9=20) for the team-lead with 11 goals.

Deslauriers is tied with right wing Scott Sabourin (8-7=15) for second place on the team with 60 penalty minutes.

Deslauriers also leads the AHL with 121 shots on goal.

Pearson is fourth on the Monarchs with 20 points.

Pearson recorded one point, a goal, in six games with the Los Angeles Kings from November 13 to December 3.

Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (5-12=17) moved into sole possession of fifth place on the team with an assist in Saturday's game.

Bodnarchuk leads the Monarchs and the AHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-23.

Right wing Linden Vey (5-11=16) is ranked sixth on the Monarchs with 16 points.

Vey has recorded two goals and three assists in four games since his return from Los Angeles.

Vey collected five assists in 14 games with the Kings from November 1 and December 19, 2013.

Sabourin (8-7=15) is ranked seventh on the Monarchs with 15 points.

Sabourin is tied with Weal and Kozun for third place on the team with eight goals each.

Left wing Andy Andreoff (6-8=14) is ranked eighth on the Monarchs with 14 points.

Andreoff leads the team with 66 penalty minutes.

Right wing Tyler Toffoli (7-5=12) is tied with right wing Brian O'Neill (7-5=12) and center Nick Shore (4-8=12) for ninth on the Monarchs roster with 12 points each.

Toffoli has nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 26 games with the Kings. He was recalled on November 1, 2013.

O'Neill leads the Monarchs and is tied for fifth place in the AHL with three game-winning goals.

Defenseman Vincent LoVerde (0-10=10) ranks second on the Monarchs and in the AHL with a plus-20 rating.

Goaltender Martin Jones was recalled by the Kings on November 13, 2013.

Jones made his National Hockey League debut with the Kings against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, December 3. He backstopped the Kings to a 3-2 shootout victory, including going 9-for-9 in the shootout.

Jones picked up his first NHL shutout by stopping all 16 shots he faced in the Kings 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday, December 7.

The rookie netminder then stopped all 31 shots he faced in the Kings 6-0 shutout of the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, December 10.

In 10 games with the Kings, Jones has a record of 8-2-0, a .955 save percentage, a 1.29 goals-against-average, and three shutouts. Jones' eight wins tied the NHL record for consecutive winning games to start an NHL career with netminder Bob Froese who won his first eight games with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1982-83 season.

Jones is the first goaltender in NHL history to allow an average of less than one goal per game while winning the first eight appearances of his career.

Jones is the third goaltender in NHL history to record three shutouts in his first six starts. Goaltender Flat Walsh accomplished the feat with the New York Americans during the 1928-29 season and netminder Frank Brimsek did it with the Boston Bruins during the 1938-39 season.

Jones had a record of 9-2-2 with a 2.24 goals-against-average, a .927 save percentage and one shutout when he was recalled on Wednesday, November 13.

Jones ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs goaltending categories:

Games played - 149 - first place

Wins - 77 - first place

Losses - 56 - first place

Ties/Shootout Losses - 9 - tied for second place

Goals-against-average - 2.45 - eighth place

Save percentage - .921 - tied for seventh place

Shutouts - 11 - third place

Saves - 4,040 - first place

Goaltender Jean-Francios Berube is 13-5-2 in his last 20 starts, all consecutive games since Jones' recall to the Kings.

Berube has collected a 13-6-2 record with a 2.35 goals-against-average and a .919 save percentage in 20 games with the Monarchs this season.

Berube set a franchise record for consecutive appearances by a goaltender with 20 games. He surpassed the feat of 19 games set by netminders Travis Scott from February 19 - March 22, 2003, and Jason LaBarbera from November 19 - December 29, 2006.

Berube has appeared in the last 17 consecutive games. The Monarchs franchise record for consecutive appearances by a goaltender is 19 games. The record is held by netminders Travis Scott from February 19 - March 22, 2003, and Jason LaBarbera from Novmeber 19 - December 29, 2006.

Monarchs Promotions

Los Angeles Kings Night - The Monarchs will be honoring the Los Angeles Kings and all the former Monarchs currently playing there. The team will be wearing a specialty Kings-inspired jersey that was voted on by the fans and will be available in an auction. The first 2,000 fans will also receive a special Kings bank, courtesy of St. Mary's Bank.
