Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (59-71) pounded out 16 hits en route to a 9-3 win over the Buffalo Bisons (65-66) on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The 16 hits represent the second-highest total for the Pigs this season.
Kelly Dugan's two-run double in the home half of the first gave the IronPigs an early 2-0 lead.
A four-run second opened up a 6-0 lead for the Pigs as Russ Canzler knocked home a pair with a two-run double, Chase d'Arnaud delivered an RBI double and Cord Phelps reached on a force attempt fielding error by Bisons SS Jonathan Diaz which allowed Tommy Joseph to score.
Buffalo plated a trio of runs in the third to cut the lead to 6-3 as Matt Hague, Alex Hassan and Andy Burns all came through with RBI singles in the inning.
Lehigh Valley extended the lead to 8-3 with a pair of runs in the fourth as Brian Bogusevic crushed a solo shot off of Bisons starter Chad Jenkins and Joseph knocked home a run with an RBI single.
Jenkins (8-3) allowed the eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits to go along with three walks and two strikeouts over 3.1 IP.
In the bottom of the eighth, Tyler Henson doubled to center with one out and scored on Joseph's RBI double to open up a 9-3 advantage for the hosts. The run was charged to Bisons LHP Aaron Loup (1.2 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 3 BB).
Pigs starter Sean O'Sullivan (3-2) allowed three runs on eight hits while fanning four in seven innings of work.
Six different IronPigs players had multi-hit games: Bogusevic (2-3, HR, RBI, 2 R), d'Arnaud (2-5, 2B, RBI, R), Dugan (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R), Henson (2-5, 2B, R), Joseph (4-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R) and Logan Moore (2-4, R).
Joseph's four hits tied a season-high for an IronPigs player and it was the first four-hit game of his Triple-A career.
RHP Seth Rosin (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K) tossed a pair of scoreless frames in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The series wraps up on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as LHP Anthony Vasquez (7-6, 4.22) gets the ball for the Pigs against Buffalo RHP Scott Copeland (10-4, 2.43).
