Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - Durham Bulls LHP Blake Snell has been named a finalist for USA Today's Minor League Player of the Year award, given annually since 1988.

This season Snell is 13-4 with a 1.29 ERA (119 IP, 17 ER) between Advanced-A Charlotte, Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. The No. 49 prospect in baseball according to MLB.com began the season on a 46.0-inning scoreless streak between Charlotte and Montgomery, and was promoted to Durham at the end of July.

In six starts with the Bulls the 22-year-old has gone 4-2 with a 1.53 ERA (29.1 IP, 5 ER), leading the International League in strikeouts (42) and opponent's batting average (.140) since the time of his promotion. The 2011 first round draft pick has held his opponents to one run or fewer in all six starts with Durham this season, and in 17 of his 20 starts between the three levels. His cumulative 1.29 ERA and .170 opponent's average is the best of any full-season minor leaguer, while his 148 strikeouts rank fifth.

Snell joins 1B AJ Reed (Houston), RHP Michael Fulmer (Detroit), OF Adam Brett Walker (Minnesota) and 1B Trey Mancini (Baltimore) as finalists for the award. Former winners include David Price, Paul Goldschmidt and Kris Bryant.

Fan voting and members of the USA Today staff will combine to pick a winner, while fans can vote here. The winner will be announced in early September.

The Durham Bulls return to the DBAP this Thursday to begin a six-game homestand featuring visits from the Charlotte Knights and Gwinnett Braves. Tickets for this homestand, and all of the remaining nine home games of the 2015 regular season, are available at durhambulls.com, the DBAP box office, or by calling 919.956.BULL.
