August 25, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
TOLEDO, OH -- Toledo's newest entertainment district is on its way! Mud Hens President/CEO Joe Napoli was joined today by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, LISC President Michael Rubinger and other team members, to celebrate the halfway point of the Hensville construction project. Hensville is a $21 million redevelopment project in Toledo's Warehouse District, renovating three vacant buildings along N. St. Clair Street.
"Turning this vision into reality took the tremendous efforts of a few and the will of many," says Joe Napoli, Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye President and CEO. "Because of the continued support the Toledo Mud Hens have received from the community and community leaders since moving into downtown Toledo, we now have the opportunity to reinvent these buildings into something great for the entire Toledo region."
The major features of Hensville will include,
Nine at Hensville, an "upscale casual" eatery featuring the culinary creations of Chef Tony House.
Top of Nine, a rooftop dining and gathering space with spectacular views overlooking Fifth Third Field.
The Fleetwood Building will be home to a variety of party spaces, including the fourth-floor banquet area and rooftop deck overlooking Fifth Third Field.
An expanded Swamp Shop, featuring the Holy Toledo Apparel line.
- Hensville Park, located at the corner of Summit and Monroe, will be the new gateway to Hensville and the Warehouse District, and will host a variety of outdoor events.
Two major funding components for Hensville: $6 million of New Market Tax credits and nearly $4 million in Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits which allowed for the renovation of historic buildings while protecting the historical integrity of those structures.
"It takes leadership and vision to rebuild markets and attract capital and Hensville is evidence of this," says LISC president Michael Rubinger. "This project will continue the momentum and rebirth of this neighborhood and advance economic development in the Warehouse District and Toledo region."
"Halfway to Hensville" included a hard hat tour inside the buildings, to allow team members, media, and special guests to view the progress being made.
Today's speakers included: Toledo Mud Hens President/CEO Joe Napoli, LISC President Michael Rubinger, US Representative Marcy Kaptur, State Director John Ryan, State Senators Edna Brown and Randy Gardner, PNC Regional President Bill McDonnell, Fifth Third Bank President Bob LaClair, Lucas County Commissioners-- Tina Skeldon Wozniak, Carol Contrada, and Pete Gerken and Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson.
Hensville is scheduled to open in the spring of 2016. It's estimated the project will support more than 110 construction jobs.
