Bisons Fall to IronPigs, 9-3
August 25, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release
A quick strike approach on Tuesday night gave Lehigh Valley a big enough early lead to coast to a 9-3 victory over the Bisons at Coca-Cola Park. The loss is the Herd's fourth consecutive defeat.
The IronPigs scored twice in the first inning and four more times in the second to build a 6-0 cushion before Buffalo could dent the scoreboard. Lehigh Valley added two more in the fourth inning to create a deficit that was too great for the Bisons to rebound from.
The Pigs had scored just one run in 14.2 innings against Chad Jenkins but doubled that total five batters into Tuesday's contest. With two on from a Tyler Pastornicky walk and a Brian Bogusevic single, Kelly Dugan doubled to centerfield to give Lehigh Valley an early 2-0 advantage.
The opposition then batted around in the second, sending 10 men to the plate against Jenkins for a 6-0 lead. Chase d'Arnaud and former IL MVP Russ Canzler each had run-scoring doubles and a Bisons' fielding error allowed a fourth tally on the scoreboard.
Jenkins ended up allowing seven runs (eight earned) before being relieved in the fourth inning. The loss drops his record to 8-4 on the season.
Buffalo scored all three of their runs in the third inning when they temporarily got back into the contest. Matt Hague, Alex Hassan and Andy Burns all singled home runs to cut the deficit to 6-3. However, the Bisons would record just three hits from the fourth inning on to fall under the .500-mark at 65-66.
One more contest for the Bisons in Lehigh Valley on Wednesday night before starting the final homestand of the year on Thursday.
BISONS NOTES:
Matt Hague finished the game 2-4 to raise his season average to .350. His first inning double was the Bisons' first extra-base hit since Friday night in the team's 9-0 win over Syracuse...Bobby Korecky gave the Bisons some much-needed innings, working 2.2 shutout frames in relief of Jenkins. He now has a 3.27 ERA on the season...On Tuesday, the Blue Jays claimed RHP Donn Roach off waivers from the Reds. He is expected to join the Bisons this week.
