Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Syracuse, NY) - The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (16-12) defeated the Syracuse Mets (9-18) 6-2 on Friday evening at NBT Bank Stadium. The IronPigs recorded eight hits and saw their pitching staff strikeout 15 batters without issuing a walk.
Nick Maton got Lehigh Valley on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning as he hit an RBI double against Felix Pena (0-4). Dalton Guthrie scored on the play. Bailey Falter pitched three scoreless innings and only gave up two hits while striking out five batters. Drew Maggi hit an RBI single against Pena in the top of the fifth inning that gave Lehigh Valley a 2-0 lead.
The 'Pigs took a 5-0 lead against Rob Zastryzny in the top of the sixth inning. Will Toffey hit an RBI single, and Austin Wynns hit a two-run single. Syracuse answered with two runs against Aaron Barrett in the bottom of the seventh inning. Daniel Palka and Nick Meyer hit back-to-back home runs.
Wynns added another run in the top of the eighth inning to give Lehigh Valley a 6-2 lead as he hit an RBI single against Yoan Lopez.
Mark Appel (4-0) earned the win by pitching three shutout innings. He recorded four strikeouts. Michael Kelly and Nick Duron each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
The Pigs and Mets play again on Saturday evening at NBT Bank Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
