
Knights Sink Stripers 12-2 on Friday

(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA) - The Charlotte Knights pounded out three home runs en route to a commanding 12-2 win over the Gwinnett Stripers from Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA on Friday night. The win evened up the series, 2-2.
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoán Moncada hit the first of Charlotte's home runs on the evening. Moncada, who is currently on a major league rehab assignmennt, launched his second home run of his rehab stint in the top of the first inning. His solo blast gave the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Two innings later, the Knights tacked on two more runs to make it a 3-0 lead. The inning was highlighted by a Zach Remillard RBI single and a sacrifice-fly RBI from Moncada.

The Knights began to pull away from the Stripers in the fifth inning thanks to a grand slam off the bat of left fielder Blake Rutherford. His long ball gave the Knights a 7-0 lead at that point. The home run was the third of the season for Rutherford.
Moncada continued his hot hitting in the seventh inning and drove home two more runs on a two-run double. He finished the night with the home run and four RBIs. He went 3-for-3 and is now hitting .389 on the rehab assignment.

First baseman Seby Zavala added to Charlotte's lead with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. The home run was the third of the game for the Knights and fourth of the season for Zavala. The Knights added a 12th and final run in the top of the ninth inning thanks to an RBI single from second baseman Laz Rivera.
RHP Davis Martin (1-0, 3.00) was superb in his Triple-A debut. Martin, who was promoted to Charlotte from Double-A Birmingham on Thursday, allowed just two runs over six impressive innings to earn his first career Triple-A win. He walked just one batter and fanned four.

Chicago White Sox RHP Joe Kelly continued his major league rehab assignment and tossed a quick 1-2-3 inning. Kelly needed just seven pitches to retire Gwinnett in order in the seventh inning. Relievers Yacksel Ríos and J.B. Olson combined to hold the Stripers scoreless over the final two frames.
