Pigs Fall to PawSox in Series Finale, 7-1

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (54-69) dropped the series finale to the Pawtucket Red Sox (47-76) by a score of 7-1 on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.

The PawSox took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first as Deven Marrero led off with a single, moved to third on a single and scored when Carlos Rivero grounded into a 6-4-3 double play.

In the home half of the second, Tommy Joseph was hit by a pitch from Pawtucket starter William Cuevas and scored on Jordan Danks' RBI double to tie it at one for the Pigs.

Marco Hernandez's solo shot in the top of the fourth gave the Red Sox a 2-1 advantage for the time being. It was the third home run of the year for Hernandez.

Pawtucket extended the lead to 3-1 in the sixth as Rivero drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a walk and later scored on Sandy Leon's RBI double.

IronPigs starter David Buchanan (3-1) gave up three runs on six hits while walking three and fanning two over 5.1 IP.

A four-run seventh gave the Red Sox a 7-1 lead as Rivero and Allen Craig came through with RBI singles and Chris Marrero grounded into a 6-4-3 double play which allowed a run to score. All three runs were charged to RHP Dalier Hinojosa (0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K).

Cuevas (1-2) allowed a run on six hits to go along with a walk and six strikeouts in his six innings of work.

LHP Robby Scott (3.0 IP, 2 H, K) got the final nine outs to pick up his first save of the year for Pawtucket.

Aaron Altherr (3-4, 2B) and Brian Bogusevic (2-4) each had multi-hit games for the IronPigs.

RHP Chris Leroux (3.0 IP, 2 K) tossed three scoreless frames in relief for Lehigh Valley.

The Pigs will enjoy an off day on Monday before beginning a three-game set with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Tuesday night at PNC Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m with a starter yet to be determined for each team.
