Wings lefty David Hurlbut made his first career Triple-A appearance on Sunday, as he got the start on the mound against RailRiders right-hander Kyle Haynes.

Hurlbut ran into some trouble in the first inning. With one out, Hurlbut allowed back-to-back singles. After a fly out moves the runner on second to third, Hurlbut threw a wild pitch and Rob Refsnyder scored to give the RailRiders an early 1-0 lead.

The Wings looked to even the score in the bottom half of the first. Buxton led off with an infield single, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. James Beresford followed with a single of his own. A fielder's choice by Reynaldo Rodriguez put runners on on first and third with one out. However, Kennys Vargas grounded into a 1-6-3 double play to end the scoring threat for the Wings.

The RailRiders increased their lead in the top of the second. Kyle Roller led off with a triple off the left-center wall. While trying to make a play on the ball hit by Roller, Buxton smashed into the wall and was down for a couple of moments. He remained in the game after being checked by manager Mike Quade and trainer Larry Bennese. Roller scored on a ground out to put the RailRiders up 2-0.

The Wings got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Beresford and Rodriguez both hit singles to start the inning. Vargas walked to load the bases for Danny Ortiz, who leads the team with six hits with the bases loaded. Ortiz grounded a ball to second and beat out the throw on the back end of a double play. Beresford scored on the play to give the Wings their first run of the game and make the score 2-1 RailRiders.

Hurlbut notched a 1-2-3 inning on six pitches in the top of the fifth. In the bottom half, with two out and no one on, Buxton launched a home run to the left field bullpen and tied the game 2-2.

Haynes' day ended in the bottom of the six inning after walking two batters consecutively. He went 5 1/3 innings, allowed two earned runs on five hits, three walks, three strikeouts, and one home run. He threw 92 pitches, 55 for strikes.

In the top of the seventh, Hurlbut's day came to an end with two out and a runner on third. Alex Meyer relieved and got a ground out to strand the runner. Hurlbut worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs. He did not walk a batter, struck out two, and threw 90 pitches - 59 for strikes.

Meyer got himself into a jam with two outs in the eighth, walking Gregorio Petit to load the bases. But Meyer caught Taylor Dugas looking at a third strike to keep the game tied 2-2.

With reliever Johnny Barbato on the mound, Beresford's third hit of the game opened the bottom of the eighth. Beresford moved around to third base on a wild pitch and groundout. Ortiz was walked to put runners at first and third with two outs, bringing up pinch-hitter Xavier Avery; Barbato struck out Avery to end the scoring bid and the game moved to the ninth still tied 2-2.

Meyer walked Rico Noel to open the ninth inning, and a mound conference with manager Mike Quade followed. Catcher Carlos Paulino threw out Noel trying to steal, and two batters later Meyer had worked out of trouble again.

The game went to extra innings, and Meyer struck out two when facing the heart of the RailRiders order in the top of the 10th.

Meyer pitched 4 1/3 scoreless relief innings, walking two and striking out four. Mark Hamburger relieved Meyer to start the 12th inning, and the RailRIders put together a pair of singles with one out to put runners at first and second. Hamburger (4-2) struck out Gary Sanchez in a seven-pitch battle, then fanned clean-up hitter Aaron Judge for the third out.

Martinez led off the bottom of the 12th with a single against Andury Acevedo (0-2), and Paulino bunted Martinez to second base. The Wings, 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position at that point (Scranton was 0-for-11), made it 1-for-10 in an impactful way. Buxton drilled a 2-0 pitch to left-center, with Martinez hustling around the bases and sliding home with the winning run.

The Wings picked up their ninth walk-off win of the season, despite being out-hit 13-8.
