Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Hens looked to bounce back Sunday evening when they took the field against the Charlotte Knights in the series finale. On the mound for the opposing club was MLB journeyman Brad Penny. Penny spent his 2011 season in Detroit going 11-11 with a 5.30 ERA in the Tiger's starting rotation. Going up against Penny was Luis Cessa making his third start for the Mud Hens searching for his first win.

The Toledo lineup got the scoring rolling early, jumping on Penny's elevated fastball in the top of the first. With Steven Moya and Dixon Machado on, Marc Krauss hit his second triple of the season to left, deep enough to score both runners and put the home team up 2-0. The Hens weren't finished there, doubling their lead in the second . With two outs Alexi Casilla and Daniel Fields reached base with back to back singles. Dixon Machado made the most of the scoring threat as he laced a single to the right field scoring both runners and extending the lead to 4-0. Penny was tagged with the loss, surrendering six runs on ten hits over five frames.

Luis Cessa had himself a nice night on the bump as he threw five innings allowing just one run, with four strikeouts. Cessa's perfromance was followed by four combined scoreless frames from Rafael Dolis and Jose Valdez, as the duo continues to overpower teams with their high 90's fastballs. Cessa earned his first Mud Hens victory of the season.

The Mud Hens continue their week long home stand Monday night when the Gwinnett Braves head to town. Shane Greene is set to take the hill with the first pitch slated for 7:00 pm.
