Phantoms Solve Sabourin, Edge Past Bears

Hershey Bears News Release
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - Denis Hamel and Harry Zolnierczyk scored third-period goals, spoiling a spectacular night for HERSHEY BEARS netminder Dany Sabourin and sending the Adirondack Phantoms to a 2-1 victory on Saturday night at Glens Falls Civic Center.
The Phantoms ended up with the first power play of the game and had a prime scoring opportunity when Hamel found a puck in front of an open net. Sabourin got back just in time to flash out his right pad and send Hamel's shot flipping over the goal.
The BEARS' best scoring chance came when Keith Aucoin led a three-on-one rush, held the puck and fired a wrist shot off the glove of Phantoms goaltender Michael Leighton.
The BEARS outshot Adirondack 10-4 after one period, and the Phantoms turned the tide in the second, outshooting HERSHEY 17-3, but Sabourin was stellar in the BEARS' net.
It would take a sharp-angle shot from Hamel to finally beat Sabourin, as the veteran carried the puck toward the right corner and sent a shot from the goal line banking into the goal at 5:41 of the third. Shane Harper and Ben Holmstrom earned the assists.
Zolnierczyk then scored a power-play goal, tapping home a cross-ice pass from Marc-Andre Bourdon at 13:57. Orlov scored with a sixth attacker on the ice with 38 seconds remaining in the game, and the Phantoms were able to hold on from there to claim the win.
Leighton made 23 stops to improve to 5-2-0 on the season. Sabourin suffered his first loss since December 31, falling to 3-1-0 in making 28 saves.
The BEARS finished the night 0-for-2 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
HERSHEY returns home tomorrow, October 30 for a 5:00 PM faceoff against the Binghamton Senators. Individual tickets for this and all regular-season home games are on sale now by calling (717) 508-BEAR, or by visiting ticketmaster.com.
