Oklahoma City Barons (4-2-0-1) at Houston Aeros (5-1-0-2)

Barons Game 8 | Road Game 3 | AHL Game 127

Oct. 29, 2011, 7:35 pm CDT | Toyota Center, Houston, TX

Broadcast: AM 1340 The Game

TONIGHT: The Barons take on the Houston Aeros (Minnesota Wild) at the Toyota Center in the first of 4 straight road games. This is the second meeting of the year between these West Division rivals. The Barons won the first matchup 2-0 on Oct. 16 at the Cox Center. Houston has not lost in regulation since, going 3-0-0-1. The Aeros are tied for the second-most standing points in the league with 12 and lead Abbotsford by 2 points and the Barons by 3 in the West. OKC dropped a 2-1 decision at home to Charlotte last night, the Barons' first regulation home loss in 5 tries.

OFF THE TOP: Tonight is the Barons' first road game since a 3-2 win at San Antonio Oct. 14. OKC opened with 2 road games, splitting contests at Texas and San Antonio before undertaking a season-high 5-game homestand that ended last night. The Barons went 3-1-0-1 on the homestand.

CASE FOR THE DEFENSE: OKC has allowed 9 goals in 6 games since a 7-0 defeat at the hands of the Texas Stars in the season opener Oct. 9 at Cedar Park. At 2.29 goals against per game, the Barons own the sixth-best average in the AHL. OKC is scoring an average of 3.14 per game, which is 10th-best.

FRONT RUNNING: The Barons had a 4-game stretch from Oct. 14-21 where they never trailed, a span of 275:45 that reached close to 14 full periods. Since that run ended against Grand Rapids on Saturday, OKC is on a string of 6 consecutive periods without having a lead. The last time the Barons led was at the end of a 4-1 win on Oct. 21 against Grand Rapids. OKC is 4-0-0-0 when scoring the first goal and 0-2-0-1 when the opponent scores first.

PK UPDATE: The Barons are 30-for-33 (90.9 percent) on the penalty kill in their last 6 games, during which they've gone 4-1-0-1. The Barons had a stretch of 23 consecutive successful penalty kills snapped by Grand Rapids 2 games ago, on Oct. 22.

PETRY RECALLED: Defenseman Jeff Petry was recalled by Edmonton yesterday, but did not play in the Oilers' 3-1 win at Colorado. Petry opened the season with the Oilers, playing 3 games with no points and a +2, before being loaned to the Barons Oct. 19. He appeared in both OKC games last weekend.

OVER YANN-DER: Yann Danis had personal 3-start winning streak snapped last night despite stopping 34 of 36 Charlotte shots. In his last 4 games, Danis is 3-1-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA (4 goals in 119 minutes). He has a .966 save percentage in that time, stopping 155 of 199 shots. He recorded the team's lone shutout of the season on Oct. 16 by stopping all 28 shots against Houston in a 2-0 win.

NO SOPHOMORE JINX: Second-year left winger Philippe Cornet tops the team with 5 goals, including consecutive 2-goal games on Oct. 16 and Oct. 21. Cornet, a healthy scratch in the season opener Oct. 9, has played each of the last 6 games. Cornet spent all of last season with OKC, scoring 7 goals in 60 games.

CAPTAIN'S LOG: Barons captain Bryan Helmer is tied with Teemu Hartikainen for the second-most points on the team with 5, all of which have been assists on the power play. Helmer's 5 power play assists are tied for the third-most in the league.

BARONS WEEKLY: Center Ryan O'Marra will be the player guest with head coach Todd Nelson on "Barons Weekly," this Monday from 6-7 pm on AM 1340 The Game. The program airs live from Buffalo Wild Wings on Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City and is replayed on Thursday at 2 pm.
