Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins wrapped up an unblemished four-game road stretch by defeating the Manchester Monarchs, 4-1, on Saturday at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Penguins and raised their perfect road record to 5-0-0-0.

Already leading 1-0 heading into the second period, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton built the lead to three with the help of two players who put the game away last night against Syracuse.

Eric Tangradi scored at the five minute mark when he trailed into the high slot and flicked a pass from Colin McDonald over the shoulder of Manchester goaltender Marty Jones. Lerg gathered the second assist to extend his point streak to seven games.

Nick Petersen made it 3-0 for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 1:23 later and got credit for a power play tally as he was the last Penguin to touch the puck before a Monarchs defender inadvertently knocked it into his own net. That goal would bring goalie Jeff Zatkoff into the game in relief of Jones, who finished with 14 saves on 17 shots.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton added to its goal total at 12:20 of the third when Niko Dimitrakos beat Zatkoff with a quick shot after Brian Gibbons won an offensive zone draw.

The Monarchs managed to put a small dent in Brad Thiessen's stat sheet with five minutes left the in game as Brandon Kozun completed a 3-on-2 rush during a man-advantage. Thiessen needed only 17 saves to notch his fourth straight win.

The Penguins' power play put them up 1-0 for the second consecutive evening as Gibbons put back the rebound from McDonald's slapshot at 13:13 of the opening frame. Gibbons registered his first three-point night as a pro, also adding two assists in the contest.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins return home to host the Hershey Bears on Friday, November 4 at 7:05 PM. For tickets and more information, contact the Penguins at (570) 208-PENS or visit www.wbspenguins.com.
