Kane County Cougars News Release
BURLINGTON, Iowa - Leondy Perez tossed seven dominant innings, Angel Franco drove in two and Brian Fletcher hit his fourth homer in as many games as the Kane County Cougars took care of the Burlington Bees, 4-1, on Monday night at Community Field. The Cougars have won four games in a row, matching their longest win streak of the year, and they haven't trailed in 35 innings.
The Cougars scored two unearned runs in the top of the second inning and never looked back. Cheslor Cuthbert scored on an error by pitcher Blake Hassebrock (4-3), and Franco followed that with a two-out RBI single. The Bees scored an unearned run in the fourth, but the Cougars offset that with Fletcher's homer to right in the fifth. Fletcher moved his hitting streak to seven with the blast and has nine RBIs in his last four games. Franco's third hit of the ninth came in the ninth on an RBI single that brought home Travis Jones for a 4-1 score that became the final.
Perez (2-7) tossed his ninth quality start in 10 outings and earned his first win since May 11. He gave up one unearned run on seven hits, walked none and fanned two in the victory. Jon Keck handled the next two frames to earn his first save. The Cougars' bullpen has allowed just two earned runs in its last 23 2/3 innings.
The Cougars (4-0, 31-41) and Bees (1-3, 46-28) go at it again Tuesday night at 6:30 CT with Game 2 of the series. Greg Billo (4-1, 1.63) is scheduled to oppose Tyler Vail (1-3, 5.05). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online via kccougars.com with pregame coverage starting at 6:15 p.m.
