Cardinals 2011 first-round pick Kolten Wong went 2-for-2 with two RBI in his professional debut, helping the Bandits win 8-3 against Cedar Rapids Monday night.
Wong started at second base for the River Bandits and turned one double play on the night in addition to his offensive performance.
Bandit starter Zach Russell (4-6) went a season-high 6.1 innings allowing one run on six hits while striking out six. Russell also walked two in the game and the starter won his third game in a row. Russell was relieved by Cale Johnson. The right-hander went 1.2 innings allowing one run on two hits while walking one. Along with Wong, the Bandits were led offensively by Jonathan Rodriguez, who went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Oscar Taveras went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the game and extended his home hitting streak to 13 games.
Russell was opposed by Kernels starter Max Russell (4-7). The left-hander went five innings allowing five runs while striking out seven.
