DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Dragons (3-1, 38-36) responded to a game-tying Matt Nuzzo home run with a six-run seventh inning, seizing the opener of a three-game series with a 9-2 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (3-1, 41-30) on Monday night at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.

Dayton starter Daniel Corcino (Win, 8-3) cruised through the first six innings of the game, carrying a 2-0 lead into the seventh. But K.C. Hobson (2-for-4) lined a one-out opposite-field single and Nuzzo followed with his second home run of the season, deadlocking the score at 2-2.

The Dragons roared back in the home half, keyed by a three-base, two-run throwing error by Lugnuts reliever Tyler Powell (Loss, 1-1). Ronald Torreyes and Donald Lutz each supplied RBI singles and David Vidal laced an RBI double on a 3-0 pitch, putting Dayton up 8-2.

A Dayton double steal attempt in the eighth inning led to a ninth Dragon run -- and also ignited Lugnuts tempers, causing umpires Mike Dorantes and Alex Ransom to cool down an exchange of angry words between managers Delino DeShields and Mike Redmond before the start of the ninth.

Lansing started Danny Barnes, who had seen all of his previous action this season from the bullpen. Barnes went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one unearned) while striking out six and not issuing a walk.

The Dragons are scheduled to start lefty Tanner Robles (3-6, 7.09) in the second game of the series, set for 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. The Lugnuts starter has yet to be announced.

The Lugnuts' next series at Cooley Law School Stadium will take place Sunday, July 3rd, through Friday, July 8th. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
