Grand Chute, WI - The Peoria Chiefs broke a 10-game losing streak in a big way Monday night pounding out 16 runs on 19 hits in a 16-7 dismantling of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The Chiefs scored seven times in the second inning while building leads of 9-0 and 16-2. The Chiefs are now 1-3 on the second half and 34-40 overall on the season.

The Chiefs got the game going with an unearned run in the top of the first off Matt Miller. Rubi Silva reached on a one-out error by shortstop Mike Brownstein and with two down Richard Jones doubled him home for a 1-0 Chiefs lead. The lead was the first for the Chiefs since the bottom of the first on Friday night and just the second lead of the second half.

Peoria broke the game wide open and sent Miller to the showers in the second. Ryan Cuneo started it off with a single and Elliot Soto doubled to left. Cuneo scored as Anthony Giansanti reached on another error by Brownstein. With one down Matt Szczur put the Chiefs up 3-0 with a single and Silva drove home Giansanti. Greg Rohan made it 5-0 with a single before Jones struck out. With Micah Gibbs at the plate Rohan stole second and on the throw to second, Silva swiped home for a 6-0 Chiefs lead. Gibbs singled home Rohan and Wisconsin replaced Miller with Damon Krestalude. Cuneo greeted Krestalude with a RBI double for his second hit of the inning and an 8-0 lead before Soto popped out to bring the inning to a close.

The bats kept going as Giansanti led off the third with a monstrous solo homer to left for a 9-0 lead. Wisconsin got on the board in the bottom of the third against Chiefs hurler Matt Loosen who was making his first start. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with two outs and Greg Hopkins made it 9-2 with a single to center. Silva threw out Nick Shaw at third base to end the inning and the Chiefs got the bats going again in the fourth.

Rohan led off with a single and scored easily on Jones' second double of the night. Jones moved to third on a groundout and scored on a sac fly by Cuneo as the Chiefs took an 11-2 lead. Soto drew a walk and moved to third on a single by Giansanti and Soto scored on a wild pitch by Krestalude.

After going scoreless in the fifth, the Chiefs continued to barrage the Rattlers in the sixth inning. With two down Soto singled up the middle and moved to third on a double by Giansanti. Pierre LePage drove home both runners with a double to right and he scored on a double by Szczur for a 15-2 Peoria lead.

Giansanti added to the scoring in the eighth with his second homer of the night, a one-out solo shot to right field. It marks the second time this season that Giansanti has hit two homers in a game as he also clubbed a pair on May 29 at Cedar Rapids.

Wisconsin wouldn't go away easy as Shaw and Brownstein singled with one out in the eighth against Alvaro Sosa. Cody Hawn drove home a run to made it 16-3 and Hopkins doubled home another. Chiefs-killer Mike Walker clubbed his fifth home run against Peoria this season to cut the lead to 16-7 before Larry Suarez replaced Sosa. Suarez struck out Tyler Roberts and Franklin Romero to end the threat.

In his second appearance with the Chiefs and first start, Loosen turned in a career-high six innings and struck out a career-best seven. The right-hander allowed two runs on four hits while walking two. Alvaro Sosa allowed five runs on seven hits over 1 1/3 innings while striking out two.
