HERSHEY, Pa. - Simon Despres scored on a wrist shot 57 seconds into overtime, sending the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 5-4 win over the HERSHEY BEARS on Friday night at GIANT Center.

The BEARS jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Julien Brouillette fired a slap shot from the right point that eluded Penguins netminder Brad Thiessen at 3:08. Maxime Lacroix and Andrew Carroll each earned their second assists of the season on the play.

The Penguins came right back to tie the score when Philip Samuelsson banged home his first AHL goal at 5:47, stationed at the front of the net to bury Paul Thompson's shot from the left circle past Dany Sabourin.

The game appeared to be tied heading to regulation until Patrick McNeill fired a slap shot toward the net from the right circle, where Jacob Micflikier was able to stand in front and deflect the puck home with under one second left in the period.

The BEARS held the 2-1 lead until 24 seconds remained in the second frame, when Paul Thompson knocked in the rebound of Ben Street's shot to tie the score. Just 16 seconds after that, Ryan Craig slammed home his own rebound past Sabourin to give the Penguins their first lead of the night at 3-2.

Brouillette then got the BEARS offense back on track early in the third, helping to tie the score 3-3 when he sent a shot on net that was blocked down by Thiessen. Keith Aucoin broke free at the net front and backhanded the rebound into the net at 4:03.

Colin McDonald then chipped in his fourth goal of the season when a point shot from Samuelsson deflected off of the crossbar behind Sabourin. Unable to find the puck, Sabourin couldn't recover in time and the Penguins took a 4-3 lead at 8:54.

The Penguins led until late in the frame, when the BEARS earned their fifth power play opportunity. With 2:24 remaining in regulation, Aucoin carried the puck down the right side and sent a pass to a streaking Mattias Sjogren, who slipped a shot behind Thiessen to tie the score 4-4.

Despres then buried his wrist shot past Sabourin when Street stole the puck in the BEARS' defensive end and fed the blueliner in the slot.

Sabourin falls to 3-3-0 in taking the loss, making 21 saves on 26 shots. Thiessen improves to 9-2-0, stopping 21 of 25.

The BEARS drop to 7-3-3-0 on the season and 0-3 in overtime. HERSHEY finished with a 2-for-5 mark on the power play and a 3-for-3 penalty kill.
