WORCESTER, MA - John McCarthy scored his first goal of the season and added an assist as the Sharks defeated the Sound Tigers 3-2 at the DCU Center on Friday afternoon.

Harri Sateri was solid in goal for Worcester making 23 saves as the Sharks improved to 1-2-0-1 on their season long six game home stand which continues on Saturday night at 7pm vs. the Manchester Monarchs.

John McCarthy (1st) gave Worcester a 1-0 lead after he scored while the Sharks were shorthanded by two men with a terrific rush down the left side and snapped a shot through Bridgeport netminder Anders Nilsson at 8:32. Bridgeport tied the score after rookie David Ullstrom skated down the left side and wristed a shot from the circle off the glove hand of Harri Sateri and into the net at 18:25. Bridgeport outshot Worcester 8-6 in the opening frame.

Physical play picked up in the middle frame as Sharks captain Mike Moore (2nd FM) dropped the mitts with Sound Tigers agitator Michael Haley at 4:36. After a brief delay due to a power surge at the DCU Center, Cam MacIntyre (3rd) deflected a Matt Irwin shot from the point into the net at 7:48 to give the Sharks a 2-1 advantage. John McCarthy received the secondary assist after a clean faceoff win in the Bridgeport zone. There were plenty of post whistle scrums the rest of the period as Worcester outshot Bridgeport 14-7 in the middle frame.

In the third period, rookie Brodie Reid (2nd) scored in his 2nd straight game at 4:43 after Benn Ferriero blocked a shot inside the Sharks zone and the puck punched out to Reid on the left wing. Brodie flew down the left side and snapped a quick shot past the glove hand of Nilsson to put Worcester ahead 3-1. Nino Niederreitter (1st) blazed a shot from the right slot through a screen to get the Sound Tigers within one score at 17:01. The Sound Tigers pulled the goaltender with 90 seconds remaining and had several chances to tie the score late but Harri Sateri stood tall for his 3rd victory of the season.
