Admirals Comeback Falls Short; Drop 2-1 Decision to Devils

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Norfolk Admirals (8-6-0-1) fell to the Albany Devils (7-6-0-1), 2-1, on Friday night at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. The Admirals four-game road trip continues tomorrow night, as they visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a rematch between the East Division rivals.

Cory Conacher scored his sixth goal of the season in the second period while Jaroslav Janus allowed two goals on 27 shots in the contest.

Albany got the scoring started with back-to-back goals late in the first period. Steven Gionta gave the Devils a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Gionta tipped in a shot by Dennis Wiseman behind Janus, for his second goal of the season with 2:56 remaining in the first.

Just 1:16 later, Matt Taormina put the Devils ahead 2-0. Taormina fired a shot from the right circle over the glove hand of Janus for his third goal of the season, and second against the Admirals.

The Admirals lone goal came with less than four minutes remaining in the middle frame. Defenseman Mark Barberio found Conacher all alone in the right face off circle. While falling down to one knee, Conacher fired a slap shot circle over the glove hand of Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid with 3:56 remaining in the second period.

Despite out shooting the Devils 12-2 in the third period, the Admirals could not complete the comeback as neither team mustered a goal in the final frame.

Jaroslav Janus (4-2-1) turned aside 25 of 27 shots in the losing decision. Keith Kinkaid (4-2-1) stopped 24 of 25 shots for the victory.

Norfolk was 1-6 on the power play. Albany was 0-4 with the man advantage.
