B-Sens Fall to Amerks, 3-1

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators travelled to the Blue Cross Arena for a Friday night tilt against the cross division rival Rochester Americans. Zack Kassian netted the game winning goal and added an assist at the Amerks handed the B-Sens their sixth straight loss, 3-1.

The B-Sens were the first to get on the board in the game, as Andre Petersson scored his third goal of the season on a power play with just 1:33 left on the clock in the opening period. Mike Hoffman and Pat Cannone assisted on the play.

Derek Whitmore struck for Rochester just 3:44 into the second to knot the game at one. Just past the midway point of the period, Kassian tallied his team leading sixth goal of the season to give the Amerks a 2-1 lead. Paul Szczechura earned the primary assist on Kassian's goal, his first of two in the game.

Brayden McNabb increased Rochester's lead by two at 2:49 of the third, notching his second of the season on a 5-on-3 power play. Both Szczechura and Kassian would assist on the goal.

Despite outshooting Rochester 18 to 6 in the final period, the B-Sens failed to generate any more offense. Binghamton outshot their opponent for only the second time this season, as the final shots favored the B-Sens 36 to 25.

Overall Binghamton was 1 for 7 on the power play, while Rochester went 2 for 8 with the man advantage.

Robin Lehner made his fourth straight start in goal for Binghamton, making 22 saves while falling to 4-5-1 on the season. His counterpart Drew MacIntyre made 35 saves to improve to 2-4-1.

Up next the B-Sens travel north of the border to the home of their parent club Ottawa Senators. They will meet the Hamilton Bulldogs for a 1 p.m. tilt at Scotiabank Place on Sunday.
