PRINCE GEORGE, BC- The Prince George Cougars (19-30-2-1) had their winless streak extend to five games after their 4-3 loss to the Spokane Chiefs (16-31-4-1) at the CN Centre on Friday.
Discipline was the root of the problem for Prince George, as they surrendered three power play goals, including the game-winner. The Chiefs went 3-7 on the man advantage. The Cougars were 1-3 on the power play.
The Cougars also squandered a 3-1 second period lead, after they scored three unanswered goals. Trailing 1-0, Prince George rattled off three-straight goals from Jonny Hooker, Ethan Samson, and Koehn Ziemmer. Hooker tied the game late in the first and Samson and Ziemmer scored two minutes apart in the middle frame.
Tyler Brennan was solid in net, as he made a handful of key saves, including stopping Spokane's Cade Hayes on a penalty shot in the second period.
The Chiefs had comeback of their own, as they scored three-straight to come from behind and secure the road win. Ty Cheveldayoff scored one minute after the Cougars went up 3-1, to put the Chiefs right back within a goal at 3-2. Nick McCarry, on the power play, scored with 47 seconds left in the second to tie it 3-3.
Graham Sward's game winner came on the power play too and just 37 seconds into the third period.
The Cougars have now lost eight in a row at home dating back to January 21st. The Cougars lead on eighth place shrunk to four points, the Chiefs' win.
