Prince George, B.C. - The Spokane Chiefs battled back from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 over the Prince George Cougars on the road Friday night.
Chase Bertholet opened the scoring with his 20th goal of the year at just 4:20 on the Chiefs' first of seven power play opportunities. Blake Swetlikoff and Graham Sward earned assists on the play.
The Cougars answered by putting their first goal on the board at 16:35 in the first to tie things up.
Prince George continued their push toward the midpoint of the second period, with back-to-back goals from Ethan Samson (8:45) and Koehn Ziemmer (10:42).
Rookie winger Ty Cheveldayoff got the Chiefs back in the game at 11:42 in the second, when he found the twine thanks to a beautiful feed from team captain Bear Hughes. It's Cheveldayoff's fourth point in the last four games.
Nick McCarry soon followed that up with another power play goal at 19:13 to even it up again.
The Chiefs came out hot in the third period, swiftly moving the puck around the zone before finding veteran defenseman Graham Sward at the line. He fired a missile into the back of the net just 37 seconds into the frame. Hughes earned his third assist and point of the night on the play.
The rest of the period was scoreless, as Spokane claimed the 4-3 road victory.
Mason Beaupit started in net for Spokane and stopped 26-of-29 shots faced, while Tyler Brennan turned aside 28-of-32 Chiefs shots.
The Chiefs' power play was buzzing throughout the game, capitalizing on 3-of-7 man advantages. They went 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Up next, the Chiefs will face the same Cougars a second time Saturday night to wrap up their B.C. road trip.
