Salt Lake Bees News Release

Matt Palmer struck out a season-high 11 Memphis hitters to help lead the Salt Lake Bees to a 10-0 shutout of the Redbirds on Wednesday night. Palmer (1-4), who did not make it out of the third inning in his last start, was strong from the beginning as he fanned the side in order in the first inning. In six and two-third innings, he allowed no runs on four hits with three walks. Palmer got into trouble in the seventh, as Memphis had the bases loaded with two outs on two walks and a single, but Barret Browning came out of the bullpen and got Donovan Solano to ground out to get out of the inning.

The Bees led 2-0 when they broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning. Dwayne Bailey drove in the first run with his first triple of the season. Later, Efren Navarro added a two-run double and Jeremy Moore capped off the inning with a two-run homer. Moore led the Bees with three hits and two runs batted in as he fell a double shy of hitting for the cycle. Kevin Richardson had two hits and one RBI and Efren Navarro added one hit and two RBI.

"He (Palmer) just went out and took control of what was going on," said Bees Manager Keith Johnson about Palmer's performance. "Everything that happens out there on the field while you are on the mound is a result of what you do. Whether it's good or bad, you can get past it and get to the next thing and he did a great job at that tonight."
