Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Former Express member Cody Ransom was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI as the Reno Aces defeated the Round Rock Express 7-2 in Pacific Coast League action Wednesday night at The Dell Diamond. The Aces (28-19) took a two-games-to-one lead in the four-game series. The Express (27-19) fell to 3-4 on the current 12-game home stand.
Ransom, who played for the Express while Round Rock was the Houston Astros Triple-A affiliate in 2006 and 2007, broke a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the second. Reno never relinquished that lead. Ransom added an RBI double in the fourth.
Meanwhile Reno starter Matt Torra (3-0) picked up the win, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts over 7.0 innings. Bryan Shaw pitched a perfect eighth with one strikeout, and Jason Urquidez worked around a pair of singles in a scoreless ninth to close the game. Express batters were 0-for-10 with four strikeouts against Aces pitchers when falling behind 0-2.
Express starter Seth McClung (2-1) took the loss; he worked 4.0-plus innings, facing two batters in the fifth, and allowed five runs on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
Chad Tracy led off the bottom of the second with a double and later scored on Doug Deeds' two-out RBI single. But the Aces answered with a Collin Cowgill RBI single in the third. Ransom struck again with an RBI double in the fourth, and Konrad Schmidt scored Ransom with an RBI single to push the Aces lead to 5-1.
Chris Davis led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run, his second in as many days and sixth in seven games with the Express. However, Round Rock batters went 4-for-24 with four strikeouts the rest of way.
Wily Mo Pena tacked on a two-out RBI single in the seventh, and Cole Gillespie capped the scoring with a two-out RBI double in the ninth.
Deeds was 3-for-4, while Tracy and Kevin Cash each had two hits. Gillespie finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Cowgill had two hits.
Round Rock and Reno conclude the series Thursday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Neil Ramirez (3-1, 3.66 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Kevin Mulvey (3-3, 7.43 ERA) is slated to go for the Aces.
