
P-Bruins Fall To Penguins 5-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 5-3 Friday evening in front of 10,110 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Trent Whitfield, Jared Ross and Jordan Knackstedt. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Amica Lip Balm Night against the Binghamton Senators.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage at the 6:56 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Mikko Lehtonen sent the puck towards the net, where it was picked up and put in by Whitfield, his 16th goal of the season. Wilkes-Barre tied the game at one at the 11:28 mark. Alex Grant tallied his third goal of the season, while Joe Vitale and Brian Strait recorded the assists. Providence retook the lead at the 15:38 mark. Whitfield work the puck to the point, where Ross blasted it into the net for his first goal of the season. The P-Bruins led 2-1 going into the first intermission.
Providence made it 3-1 at the 4:25 mark of the second period, while on the power play. John Lammers held the puck along the board, before sending it to the left point for Andy Wozniewski. He sent the puck towards the net, where it was tipped in by Knackstedt for his 12th goal of the season. The Penguins pulled back within a goal at the 4:37 mark. Zach Sill netted his fourth goal of the season, while Chris Lee had the lone assist. Wilkes-Barre tied the game at three at the 7:07 mark. Strait scored his second goal of the season, while Dustin Jeffrey and Nick Johnson recorded the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at three.
Wilkes-Barre took its first lead of the game at the 3:48 mark of the third period. Tim Wallace grabbed his 20th goal of the season, while Chris Conner and Ben Lovejoy had the assists. The Penguins finished off the scoring at the 14:36 mark, while shorthanded. Wallace netted his second goal of the game and 21st of the season, with Vitale getting the lone assist. The Penguins went onto the 5-3 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 33 of 38 shots for the P-Bruins, while Brad Thiessen made 26 saves for the Penguins. The P-Bruins were 2-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins hit the road Saturday to the Glens Falls Civic Center to face the Adirondack Phantoms at 7:00 p.m. The P-Bruins wrap up the week at home at The Dunk Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Amica Lip Balm Night against the Binghamton Senators.
