Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY - In a game that pitted local brothers and Rome, NY natives Tom and Tim Sestito playing against each other for the first time, older brother Tim's Lowell squad tallied twice on the power play and got a 37-save effort from goaltender Mike McKenna to defeat the Crunch by a 3-1 count tonight at the War Memorial at Oncneter. The loss broke Syracuse's three-game winning streak.

Lowell notched the game's first goal with the man-advantage eight and a half minutes into the game when Nathan Perkovich sniffed out the puck at the top of the crease and poked it past Kevin Lalande to put his team up 1-0.

Lowell took a 2-0 lead at the 15:23 mark of the second stanza when Alexander Vasyunov got to a rebound that Lalande couldn't cover and the Crunch failed to clear from the front of their net. Vasyunov pounced on the puck before a Crunch player could reach it and pounded it in for the goal.

The Devils continued pouring it on at the end of the second and scored their second power play marker of the contest just two minutes later when Matt Taormina's blast from the point found its way through a screened Lalande to make it 3-0.

The Crunch came out with a purpose in the third frame and finally got on the score sheet just under five minutes in when Brendan Bell's shot from the right point bounced right out to Chad Kolarik, who rifled it home on the rebound past McKenna to cut it to 3-1.

The game turned chippy after that, with a total of 40 combined penalty minutes being handed out to both teams just 23 seconds after the Crunch scored. The Crunch's Jon Mirasty and Lowell's Myles Stoesz were both given game misconducts for their roles in the altercation.

The Crunch continued to push the play, outshooting the Devils by a 13-4 count in the third, but could not get another puck by McKenna.

Syracuse plays its next game at home on Saturday, March 13 against arch-rival Rochester at 7:30 p.m.
