P-Bruins Fall To Marlies 6-4

Toronto, ONT - The Providence Bruins fell to the Toronto Marlies 6-4 Wednesday evening at the Ricoh Coliseum. The P-Bruins got their goals from Brad Marchand, Vladimir Sobotka and two goals from Mikko Lehtonen. The first place P-Bruins continue their eight game road trip Friday against the Manitoba Moose at the MTS Centre at 7:30 p.m.

Toronto took a 1-0 advantage at the 16:39 mark of the opening period. Jiri Tlusty netted his 22nd goal of the season, while Tim Stapleton and Bates Battaglia recorded the assists. Providence tied the game at one at the 18:26 mark. Johnny Boychuk sent the puck into the zone and Martin St. Pierre picked it up and sent it to the right face off circle. Lehtonen was there to pick it up and put it in the net for his 22nd goal of the season. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.

The Marlies retook the lead only ten seconds in the second period, while on the power play. Stapleton netted his 17th goal of the season with Anton Stralman and Jeremy Williams grabbing the assists. Providence tied the game at two at the 13:33 mark, while on the power play. Boychuck worked the puck from the point to the boards for St. Pierre. He found Lehtonen backdoor, who tipped the puck into the net for his second goal of the game and 23rd of the season. Toronto took a 3-2 lead at the 17:11 mark. Tlusty scored his 23rd goal of the season, with Jaime Sifers and Battaglia getting the assists. With time running out in the third, the P-Bruins tied the game at three. At the 19:29 mark, Marchand stole the puck along the right boards, skated into the right face off circle and netted his 16th goal of the season. The game went into the third intermission tied at three.

Toronto went ahead 4-3, while on a 5-on-3 power play, at the 8:09 mark. Stralman scored his seventh goal of the season, with Tlusty and Stapleton picking up the assists. The Marlies added another power play goal at the 13:17 mark to take their first two goal lead of the game. Williams tallied his 18th goal of the season, while Tlusty and Stralman had the assists. Providence cut the lead to one at the 15:04 mark. Adam McQuaid worked the puck into the zone for St. Pierre who took a shot from the right face off circle. The rebound went to Sobotka, who backhanded the puck into the net for his 14th goal of the season. Toronto came right back to retake a two goal advantage. At the 15:45 mark, Stapleton netted his 18th goal of the season with Tlusty and Battaglia getting the assists. Toronto went on to the 6-4 victory.

Tuukka Rask stopped 24 of 30 shots for the P-Bruins, while Justin Pogge made 26 saves for the Marlies. The P-Bruins were 1-for-7 on the power play and 4-for-7 on the penalty kill.
