Penguins Recall Cashman And Ewing

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have recalled forward Bryan Ewing and defenseman Reid Cashman from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) it was announced on Wednesday.

Additionally, the Pittsburgh Penguins have reassigned forward Luca Caputi and defenseman Jon D'Aversa to the Nailers.

Ewing, 23, leads the Nailers and ranks second in the ECHL with 72 points (36+36) in 53 games this season. He also places third in the ECHL in goals, tied for 11th in power play goals (10).

The Wheeling native leads all ECHL rookies in points and goals, and ranks tied for second in assists.

Ewing made his AHL debut with the Penguins on February 8, going scoreless and even. He has appeared in two games with the Penguins this season after being signed by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as a free agent on August 29, 2008.

Cashman, 20, has recorded 18 points (5+13) in 21 games with the Nailers this season. He has also appeared in 14 games with the Penguins this season, recording five points (2+3) and a plus-1 rating. Both of his goals were game-winning tallies (Feb. 3 at Philadelphia, Feb. 6 vs. San Antonio in overtime).

The native of Red Wing, MN, has appeared in 29 career AHL contests with the Penguins and Toronto Marlies, recording nine points (2+7) and 22 penalty minutes.

Cashman was signed by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as a free agent on July 24, 2008.

Caputi, 20, has recorded 40 points (15+25) in 54 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. He made his NHL debut on February 3 at Montreal, and recorded one goal in five games with Pittsburgh between February 3 and February 11.

He was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (111th overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft.

D'Aversa, 23, has recorded 22 points (1+21) in 55 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. In parts of two seasons with the Penguins, he has recorded 28 points (5+23) in 82 games.

D'Aversa was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on March 25, 2007.
