
P-Bruins Defeat Wolf Pack 6-1

Hartford, CT - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 6-1 Thursday evening at the XL Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Matt Hunwick, Nate Thompson, Chris Collins, Byron Bitz, Jeff Hoggan and Pascal Pelletier. The 40-12-2-1 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at the MassMutual Center versus the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m. Providence moves six points ahead of the second place Wolf Pack.
The P-Bruins took the lead at the 10:15 mark of the opening period. Hoggan dropped the puck off to Hunwick at the far point. He took a shot and the puck went off the leg of Wolf Pack forward Greg Moore and into the net. Providence took a 2-0 advantage at the 14:22 mark. Matt Lashoff sent the puck out of his own zone and up ahead to Thompson. He skated into the Hartford end and took a shot from the right face off circle. The puck went off Wolf Pack goaltender Miika Wiikman and into the net. Hartford cut the lead in half going into the first intermission. While on the power play at the 19:28 mark, Pierre Parenteau tallied his 23rd goal of the season with Ivan Baranka and Thomas Pock getting the assists.
Providence extended its lead at the 6:06 mark of the second period. Hunwick took a shot from the left point and Collins deflected the puck into the net. Hoggan recorded the second assist. At the 13:37 mark, while on the power play, the P-Bruins took a 4-1 advantage. From the left face off circle, Bitz sent the puck off the post and into the net. Martins Karsums and Lashoff picked up the assists.
In the third period, the P-Bruins added their second power play goal of the evening. At the 6:35 mark, Aaron Slattengren sent the puck from the corner in front of the net to Hoggan, who scored his 23rd goal of the season. Matt Hendricks grabbed the second assist. Providence finished off the scoring at the 8:13 mark. Wacey Rabbit took a shot and Wiikman made the save. The rebound went to Pelletier who was at the side of the net and he tallied his team leading 28th goal of the season. Karsums recorded the second assist as the P-Bruins went on to the 6-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 21 of 22 shots for the P-Bruins, while Wiikman made 24 saves and Chris Holt made six saves for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 2-for-9 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins continue their seven game road trip before returning to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, March 7 against the Binghamton Senators for T-Shirt Night at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins road trip begins Thursday in Hartford and the P-Bruins will be hosting a road game party at Union Station Brewery in Providence.
