Hurricanes Return Borer To River Rats

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that defenseman Casey Borer has been returned on loan to Albany by the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League. The River Rats also announced that right wing Daniel Sparre has been released from his Professional Tryout Agreement.

Borer, 22, has played a total of 11 NHL games for the Hurricanes this season, scoring three points (1 goal, 2 assists), recording four penalty minutes and averaging 15:17 of ice time per game. Recalled to Carolina on February 14th for the second time this year, the Minneapolis, Minnesota native played in three games for the Hurricanes during his most recent call-up, averaging almost 29 shifts and 17:58 of ice time per game. Borer ranks third amongst Albany defensemen with 14 points (5 goals, 9 assists) and leads the team with a +11 plus/minus rating. He was drafted by Carolina in the third round (69th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Sparre, 23, appeared in three games for Albany since signing a PTO on February 16th, tallying one assist and a minus-one rating. The Brampton, Ontario native has played seven total AHL games this season combined between Albany and Springfield. Sparre returns to the Columbia Inferno of the ECHL where he has 34 points (19 goals, 15 assists) and 40 penalty minutes in 46 games played this year.

Albany is home on Friday, February 22nd, as they will host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for a crucial East Division match up set for 7:00 pm at the Times Union Center. Saturday the River Rats host their old affiliate the Lowell Devils at 7:00 pm.
