
Crunch Announce Winners of U.S. Army High School 'Recruits of the Week'

Syracuse, NY (February 21, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today the winners of the U.S. Army High School 'Recruits of the Week' for the week ending February 17, 2008.
Throughout the 2007-08 season, the Crunch, along with the U.S. Army will present the U.S. Army 'Recruits of the Week' in Section III hockey. The 'Recruits of the Week' are high school hockey players in Section III who have been chosen for their outstanding play in that week's games.
Each week, winners will be chosen to represent each of the Section III hockey divisions (Division I, Division II - East and Division II - West).
The U.S. Army 'Recruits of the Week' for the week ending February 17 are:
Division I -
Michael Poppleton (FM - Junior): Despite falling to Ithaca (2-0) in Sectional play, it was the strong goaltending of Poppleton all season that helped lead FM to a 17-6-1 record. Poppleton notched 31 saves with a .969 goals against average against Ithaca.
Division II - West -
Jason Frier (Corcoran - Sophomore): An impressive season was put together by Frier between the Cougar pipes and the same can be said in the Sectionals. Frier (21 saves on 24 shots vs. RFA) propelled Corcoran to a semi-final match-up against top-ranked Whitesboro.
Division II - East -
Logan Schaaf (Whitesboro - Senior): A good goal scorers isn't complete without a good set-up man. Schaaf proved to be just that, managing three assists against Cortland/Homer and helping Whitesboro advance to a semi-final match-up against Corcoran.

Division I - Tim Besio (West Genesee - Senior), Matt Esposito (FM - Freshman), Zach Wilder (Ithaca - Junior), Tommy Trowell (Auburn - Junior), Josh LaRose (Liverpool - Junior), Andrew Lazzaro (Oswego - Senior)
Division II - West - Anthony Bird (Central Square - 8th grade), Griffin Ferrigan (CBA - Senior), Keith Buehler (Skaneateles - Junior), James Cathers (Corcoran - Sophomore), Steve Stowell (Cortland/Homer - Senior), Joey Poppe (Solvay - Senior)
Division II - East - TJ Reilley (RFA - Freshman), Chris Snyder (Clinton - Senior), Blaine Holcomb (Hamilton - Sophomore), Arron Canarelli (New Hartford - Senior), Kyle Foley (Clinton - Senior), Jordan Hobaica (Clinton - Junior), George Hajjar (Whitesboro - Senior)
The Syracuse Crunch and U.S. Army will continue to recognize players for their outstanding play throughout the sectional playoffs and state finals. In addition, at the conclusion of the season, the Crunch and U.S. Army will name the U.S. Army 'Coach of the Year.'
