Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 3-1 Sunday afternoon at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Mike Moore, Tyler Randell and Alexander Khokhlachev each scored for the P-Bruins, while Niklas Svedberg made 26 saves in the victory.
The P-Bruins opened the scoring at the 9:56 mark for the first period. Moore took a hard wrist shot from the right face-off circle and the puck sailed past Springfield goaltender Jeremy Smith for his third goal of the season. Chris Casto and Anthony Camara had the assists. Providence took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Providence carried the momentum into the second period with strong offensive opportunities, but it was the Falcons scoring at the 10:52 mark to tie the game at one when Alex Aleardi picked up a loose puck in front of Svedberg and slid it past the goal line for his seventh goal this season. Tim Miller and Tim Erixon recorded the assists. The P-Bruins regained the lead at the 16:47 mark when Randell scored his second goal this season. Rob Flick and Tommy Cross grabbed the helpers as the P-Bruins led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
In the third period, the P-Bruins added an insurance goal at the 14:51 mark when Khokhlachev had a short breakaway chance. The puck flipped over Smith and into the net for Khokhlachev's 12th. Camara had the lone assist as the P-Bruins went onto the 3-1 victory.
Svedberg stopped 26 of 27 shots for the P-Bruins, while Smith made 17 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins were 0-for-6 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins return to action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday at 7:05pm against the St. John's IceCaps. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a hat courtesy of the RI Lottery. For tickets to this game or any other P-Bruins home game, please visit www.providencebruins.com.
