MANCHESTER, NH - Martin Jones made 19 saves, helping the Manchester Monarchs to a 3-0 victory against the Albany Devils Sunday at Verizon Wireless Arena. The Devils enter the AHL All-Star break with a 25-16-3-4 record, while the Monarchs have a conference-best 31-14-2-5 mark.
Scott Wedgewood, who helped Albany to a shared shutout Saturday, made 26 saves on 29 shots in his 21st appearance of the season.
At the other end, Jones registered his 12th victory and second shutout of the season. He received offensive support from Sean Backman, Andy Andreoff and Jordan Weal.
Backman opened the scoring 1:08 into the game, firing a wrister far side from the right circle.
Andreoff and Weal followed with a pair of second period goals. Andreoff found the back of the net at 4:16 and Weal made the score 3-0 at 18:20.
Albany, which was outshot 29-19, went 0-4 on the power play and 6-6 on the penalty kill.
Next up, the Devils host the Hershey Bears Friday at 7 pm at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall.
Notes: Before the game, New Jersey announced that defensemen Jon Merrill was returned on loan to Albany. He did not play ... Additionally, Albany signed goaltender Anthony Felice, who backed up Wedgewood, to a professional tryout contract ... The playing surface at Verizon Wireless Arena was still dyed pink from the team's "Pink at the Rink" game Saturday.
