
P-Bruins Defeat Devils 6-1

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lowell Devils 6-1 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from T.J. Trevelyan, David Krejci, Nathan Saunders, Matt Hendricks and two goals from Martins Karsums. The 24-4-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at the Tsongas Arena against the Lowell Devils at 7:05 p.m. Providence remains eight points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
In the opening period, Lowell began the scoring shorthanded at the 11:31 mark. The P-Bruins were on a 5-on-3 power play which just expired. Ivan Khomutov picked up the puck out of the penalty box on a pass from Frank Murphy. Khomutov skated into the zone dropped the puck off to Rosario Ruggeri and he scored his second goal of the season. Providence answered back at the 16:08 mark. The Devils went to clear the zone and the puck was picked up by Sean Curry in the neutral zone. He sent it up the boards to Jeff Hoggan and he redirected it to Trevelyan, who skated a few steps inside the blue line and took a shot. The puck went off Lowell goaltender Jordan Parise and into the net. The game went into the first intermission tied at one.
In the second period, Providence took its first lead of the game shorthanded at the 5:09 mark. Karsums stole the puck in the Devils end and scored his seventh goal of the season. The P-Bruins tallied again at the 7:49 mark. Pascal Pelletier worked the puck out of the corner and passed it in front of the crease. Krejci grabbed it and scored his sixth goal of the season. Trevelyan recorded the second assist. Providence continued the scoring at the 13:44 mark to take a 4-1 advantage. Krejci won the face off at the right face off circle and banked it off the boards to Saunders at the point. He shot it through a few bodies and into the net. For Saunders it was his first goal of the season. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring in the second period, with their second shorthanded goal of the game. At the 15:57 mark, Nate Thompson took a shot from just outside the crease and the puck hit the post. It bounced to Karsums, who scored his second goal of the game and eighth of the season.
In the third period, Providence added one more insurance goal at the 11:50 mark. Thompson tipped the puck in the neutral zone to Chris Collins in front of the Devils bench. Collins then passed it to Hendricks, who backhanded the puck past Parise and into the net. The P-Bruins went on to the 6-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 26 of 27 shots for the P-Bruins, while Parise made 27 saves for the Devils. The P-Bruins were 0-for-6 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins are back in action Saturday at the Tsongas Arena versus the Devils at 7:05 p.m. The P-Bruins return back to the Dunkin' Donuts Center for Family Games Friday, January 11 versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, January 13 versus the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
