Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Hamilton Bulldogs snapped their five-game losing skid with a 4-2 win over the Manitoba Moose on Friday night at the MTS Centre. The win improves Hamilton's record to 9-12-0-5 on the season.
The Moose opened the scoring at 5:16 of the first period when Colby Genoway tallied an unassisted marker. Genoway jumped on a loose puck, broke into the Bulldogs zone and beat netminder Jaroslav Halak with a wrist shot to the glove side.
Hamilton responded with two goals in the remainder of the opening frame to take a 2-1 lead. Corey Locke got the 'Dogs on the scoreboard at the 7:33 mark, banging home the rebound of a Duncan Milroy shot to pick up his seventh goal of the season. Then with just 12 seconds left in the period, defenceman Joel Bouchard scored on the power play to make the score 2-1. Marvin Degon and Matt D'Agostini earned assists on Bouchard's first goal as a Bulldog.
At 3:53 of the second period, Janne Lahti extended the Bulldogs lead to 3-1 with his fourth goal of the season. Eric Manlow and Pavel Valentenko drew helpers on the lone goal of the middle stanza.
Zack FitzGerald pulled Manitoba within a goal at 7:26 of the third period with his second tally of the campaign. Greg Classen and Shaun Heshka picked up assists on the 3-2 goal.
With only five seconds remaining in the game, Milroy chipped in an unassisted empty-net goal to seal the 4-2 win for the Bulldogs. The goal was Milroy's sixth of the season.
Hamilton won the special teams battle in the game, going 1-for-3 on the power play and a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Between the pipes, Halak stopped 21 of 23 shots to earn the win for the Bulldogs, while Drew MacIntyre made 21 saves on 24 shots in a losing effort for the Moose.
With a goal in the first period, Corey Locke (62-115-177) took sole possession of second place on the Bulldogs' all-time scoring list, passing Tomas Plekanec (71-105-176). Locke now needs three points to overtake Brain Swanson (71-108-179) and become Hamilton's all-time leading scorer.
