Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen look to return to the win column tonight when they kick off a weekend pair in Cleveland against the Lake Erie Monsters at 6:30 pm CST.

A new franchise in the AHL this season, the Monsters are the top affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and have struggled out of the gate this year with an 8-14-1-4 mark. The team's 21 points ties them for the least in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs and Lowell Devils. The club ranks last in both shots-for and shots-against per game, is 28th in goals-for and 25th in goals-against, and has a power play (27th) and penalty kill (26th) that also hovers near the bottom of the pile league-wide.

That said, Peoria has its own rebounding to do this evening, coming off a 7-4 loss at the hands of the Wolves in Chicago Wednesday night. Despite two goals and an assist from Charles Linglet, who extended his personal point-scoring streak to seven games, the Rivermen could not out-gun the Wolves in the end. Peoria allowed four power play goals against in the game, after only giving up a total of two away from home in 10 previous matches.

Chris Beckford-Tseu, who started the last seven straight games for the Rivermen, may get his first night off in quite some time in favor of Marek Schwarz, who has played only once since November 17 against Chicago. That lone start was a 1-0 overtime loss in Houston November 30.

On the other side of the ice, Rivermen fans can expect to hear a familiar name mentioned in Jason Bacashihua, who leads the Monsters with five wins and a 3.06 goals against average. Acquired in a trade by Colorado earlier this season, Bacashihua became the first goaltender in Monsters' history to tally an assist in a game and the first to record a shutout with 38 saves against Quad City on November 15.

Catch the last two Rivermen games before the Christmas break by tuning in to the Rivermen Pre-Game Show with Tom Callahan at 6 pm on 96.5 FM, ESPN Radio. Fans may also purchase the video feed of the game via the Rivermen web site at www.rivermen.net and clicking on the Watch/Listen Now tab on the right side of the page. Cost is just $6 per game, but you can save with a B2 Networks season pass. For more information visit www.b2livetv.com.
