Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK - The Norfolk Admirals (10-17-1-2) battled back from two deficits in the second period but fell to the Binghamton Senators (14-12-3-1) 4-3 on Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The B-Sens opened scoring 6:10 into the game just after an Admirals penalty expired. Matt Kinch sent a shot from the right point that made its way through traffic and past Norfolk netminder Jonathan Boutin.

Norfolk ended a 151:29 scoreless streak just 25 seconds into the second stanza with an Adam Henrich power play goal. David Schneider mis-handled an attempted shot from the right faceoff circle. The puck bounced in the crease to Henrich, who put the puck it Binghamton netminder Brian Elliott.

The Admirals wasted little time scoring again, as Mario Scalzo netted his first goal as an Admiral at 1:42. Bracken Kearns sent a shot from the left circle that bounced off Elliott into the air. Scalzo batted the puck out of mid-air and into the cage for a 2-1 Norfolk lead.

Binghamton bounced back with two rapid-fire goals of their own just over five minutes later to re-claim the lead. Ilya Zubov netted a power play goal with a shot from the top of the right circle that eluded Boutin high to the stick-side at 7:09.

Just over a minute later, Niko Dimitrakos picked off a pass in the Norfolk zone and fed the puck to Josh Hennessy, who scored from the slot at 8:18.

Admirals leading scorer Kyle Wanvig evened the score again just 30 seconds later. His slap shot from the right circle zipped past Elliott at 8:48.

However, another Binghamton man advantage marker put the Senators on top 4-3 heading into the final frame. Tyler Donati deflected a Brian Lee point shot past Boutin at 18:31 of the second period.

The Admirals had several shots at tying the game in the third period - including a five-on-three power play in the last two minutes - but were unable to get the equalizer.

Jonathan Boutin (38 shots, 34 saves) was saddled with the loss. Jeff Glass (42 shots, 39 saves) got the victory.

Norfolk was 1-8 on the power play. Binghamton was 2-6.

The Admirals will close out their three-game road trip tomorrow night in Hershey. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. at the Giant Center.

Norfolk returns home next week, taking on Philadelphia on December 27th and Hershey on the 28th.
