Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds opened up a six-game homestand with a 2-1 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

Second baseman Nolan Gorman slugged the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Redbirds a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals No. 2 prospect's blast marked his fifth consecutive game with a home run and his seventh homer in his last seven games.

Earlier in the game, Ben DeLuzio tied the series opener up at one with an infield single to bring home catcher Ivan Herrera in the bottom of the fifth.

Redbirds starter Johan Oviedo (1-1) was phenomenal in his third start of the 2022 season. The Cuban-born right-hander tossed a season-high 6.0 innings and allowed just one run on three hits and struck out four. It was the deepest a Memphis starter had gone into a game this season. Jake Walsh (3) earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

Memphis (7-6) and Omaha (6-7) return to action at 11:05am on Wednesday at AutoZone Park. Redbirds LHP Zack Thompson will face RHP Daniel Mengden for Omaha.
