Iowa Cubs News Release
PAPILLION, NE - The Iowa Cubs (10-16) surrendered double-digit runs for just the second time this year and fell 13-8 to the Omaha Storm Chasers (19-8), Friday at Werner Park.
Iowa got on the board first, when Ian Miller singled in Andrew Romine to give Iowa the 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Miller went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in tonight hitting out of the nine-hole.
Ryan O'Hearn got the run right back for Omaha, hitting a solo home run to tie the game at one. The Storm Chasers blew it open in the third inning, scoring six runs all with two outs.
The I-Cubs chipped away at the deficit, scoring three runs in the fourth with a two-run shot from Michael Hermosillo and a Miller RBI double. Omaha added a run in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh with two more home runs and an RBI single.
Iowa kept fighting, adding three runs in the eighth. Romine threw a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning, and then hit a solo shot in the ninth to bring the Storm Chasers' lead to five, but that was as close as they could get, falling 13-8.
POSTGAME NOTES:
