LOUISVILLE, KY - Tony Santillan set a career high with 13 strikeouts in the opener but was undone on his first pitch of the contest in Game 1, and St. Paul kept the Bats' offense off-balance throughout Game 2 as the Saints swept a doubleheader from Louisville Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Santillan yielded a homer to JT Riddle on the first pitch of the game before locking in and turning in a masterful performance. The Bats' ace whiffed two batters in each of the first three innings and put his foot on the gas over the last two frames, striking out the side in both the sixth and seventh inning to set a career-high mark in punchouts.

Santillan previously whiffed 12 with Rookie-level Billings during his first full professional season on June 27, 2016 (4.2 innings).

Louisville's right-hander dueled with University of Kentucky Alum Chandler Shepherd, who faced the minimum until allowing a home run to Narciso Crook in the sixth. Crook's homer pulled the Bats within 2-1 after Sherman Johnson had scored what proved to be the winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the second inning.

In Game 2, Bats starter Reiver Sanmartin was strong through the early goings, picking up seven strikeouts over 4.0 scoreless frames. He was touched up in the fifth, however, as Keon Broxton singled home a run and Tomas Telis plated two with a seeing-eye single to left.

The offense was enough as Rob Whalen (3.0ip) and Danny Coulombe (2.1ip) no-hit Louisville into the fifth inning. Alejo Lopez broke up the no-hit bid and scored an unearned run, but the Saints shut down the comeback with a scoreless seventh to seal a 4-1 win.

Reds rehabber Joey Votto went a combined 0-for-6 in the twin-bill.

The Bats and Saints continue their six-game series Saturday at Louisville Slugger Field at 7 p.m. Louisville will send RHP Ashton Goudeau (1-1, 4.97) to the mound against St. Paul's RHP Griffin Jax (3-1, 3.33).
