St. Paul Saints News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY - It took two guys from Kentucky to snap the St. Paul Saints minor two-game losing streak in the Bluegrass State. Chandler Shepherd, from Louisa, Kentucky, was stellar on the mound, and JT Riddle, from Lexington, led off the game with a home run, as the Saints took down the Louisville Bats 2-1 in game one of the doubleheader at Louisville Slugger Field on Friday night.

Riddle wasted little time in giving the Saints a lead. He took the first pitch of the game and crushed it over the right field wall, his fourth of the season, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Sherman Johnson followed Riddle's lead. He swung at the first pitch of the inning and promptly tripled off the right-center field wall. With one out, Johnson scampered home on a wild pitch increasing the Saints lead to 2-0.

Meanwhile, Shepherd barely broke a sweat. He gave up a leadoff walk in the second, but erased that with a double play from the next hitter, Alfredo Rodriguez.

In the third, Narciso Crook, who had the only two hits for the Bats, singled to center, but with one out Shepherd got a double play off the bat of Rocky Gale to end the inning.

Shepherd faced the minimum through five innings before giving up a leadoff home run to Crook in the sixth, his first of the season, to make it 2-1. After retiring the next two hitters Shepherd departed for Derek Law. Shepherd went 5.2 innings allowing one run on two hits while walking one and striking out one. He threw just 48 pitches, 39 for strikes.

Law picked up his third save of the season by retiring the final four batters of the game.21
