Norfolk Can't Bear Bruins' Power Play
November 4, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
The Bruins scored three power play goals en route to defeating the Admirals 4-1 on Friday night in Providence, RI.
The Admirals got on the board first with a power play goal ten minutes into the game. Bruins' backstop Tim Thomas stopped an initial shot by Dustin Byfuglien. However, Carl Corazzini found the puck in a goalmouth scramble. The Norfolk right wing stuffed it past Thomas for his first goal of the season. Byfuglien and Michal Barinka picked up assists on the power play goal at 9:55.
Providence would strike back just over three minutes later with a power play marker of their own. After receiving a pass from Ben Guite, Bruins' defenseman Chris Dyment fired a slap shot that eluded Admirals' netminder Corey Crawford at the 13:03 mark. Two minutes later, Providence found the back of the net again with the man advantage. Jonathan Sigalet's shot from the blueline was deflected in by Guite at 15:31. Despite out-shooting the Bruins 11-5, Norfolk trailed 2-1 at the first intermission.
Providence scored their third power play goal just 2:52 into the second period. Tyler Redenbach passed the puck from the near post across the front of the crease to Nathan Robinson at the far post. Robinson tapped the puck into an open net to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead. The Admirals did not pick up their first second-period shot until nearly ten minutes into the middle frame, and Providence out-shot Norfolk 11-7 in the stanza. The score was 3-1 in favor of the Bruins going into the final frame.
Despite firing ten shots on net in the third, Norfolk was unable to get the puck past Thomas. Redenbach added an empty-net goal with 30 seconds to go, and Providence defeated the Admirals 4-1.
Tim Thomas stopped 27 of 28 Admirals' shots while earning the win. Corey Crawford stopped 24 of 26 shots and picked up the loss.
Norfolk was 1-6 on the power play. Providence was 3-7.
