Admirals Top Wolves in Shoot-out
November 4, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI-Darren Haydar assisted on four goals and the Milwaukee Admirals weathered a late surge by the Chicago Wolves to come away with a 5-4 shoot-out victory Friday night at the Bradley Center.
Vern Fiddler's first goal of the year gave Milwaukee (4-3-0-1) a 1-0 lead after the first period. The center gathered in a rebound off of a shot from Marco Rosa and stuffed it past Chicago goaltender Michael Garnett. The Wolves (3-4-1-2) would counter, however, and battle back to took a 2-1 lead on goals from Karl Stewart and Jared Ross half way through the second period.
The Admirals responded with two quick strikes of their own, the first by defenseman Greg Zanon and the second by fellow blueliner Shea Weber, just 1:32 apart to put to Ads back on top 3-2. Milwaukee's third power play tally of the night, this one by Timofei Shishkanov, gave them a seemingly comfortable 4-2 lead with just under six minutes to play in the game.
However, Wolves Coach John Anderson pulled Garnett in favor of an extra attacker with just under two minutes left in the game and Chicago capitalized, getting goals from Stewert at the 18:34 mark and Brian Maloney with just 38 seconds to play in regulation.
After a scoreless overtime, Libor Pivko and Kris Beech scored in the shoot-out on the Admirals first two shots and Milwaukee backstop Pekka Rinne turned away all four Chicago skaters to vault the Ads past the Wolves.
Rinne stopped 19 of 23 Chicago shots to pick up his fourth straight win and run his season record to 4-3-0-1 on the season. Haydar assisted on every Milwaukee score to pace eight different Milwaukee skaters to earn at least a point.
Milwaukee is back in action Tuesday, November 8 when they travel to Des Moines to take on the Iowa Stars. The next Admirals home game is next Friday, November 11 versus the same Stars team at the Bradley Center. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm.
