Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, Mass. - Stephen Peat, acquired earlier in the day, had a goal and an assist and Tyler Weiman stopped 26 shots in his AHL debut as the Lowell Lock Monsters (13-17-1-4) defeated the Providence Bruins (15-13-1-1) 4-2 at Tsongas Arena on Wednesday night.
Rookie goalie Weiman was tested early as Providence took 11 of the first 12 shots in the game, including the first five. He kicked out 10 of them before Providence finally beat him. Eric Healey popped a rebound up over Weiman for the 1-0 lead. Lowell's Healey answered the bell, however, with Paul finding the top shelf with a drive from the right circle. Former UMass-Lowell product Ben Walter found Nathan Robinson in front of the net with less than five minutes left in the frame to push the Bruins back in front 2-1. Lowell was outshot in the period 18-5.
The Monsters came out stronger in the second, holding the Bruins without a shot for the nearly the entire period. Frantisek Skladany almost tied the game with a point-blank wrister seven minutes in that nearly snuck through G Jordan Sigalet. Ryan Steeves tied it up for Lowell at 14:51 by banging in a rebound chance of Peat's shot. The second-year center has three goals in his last five games. Only 2:55 remained in the stanza when Providence registered their first shot of the period. The Lock Monsters outshot the Bruins 13-3 in the second.
A two-goal burst in the first minute and a half of the second put Lowell in front by a pair. Peat notched his first of the season by banging in a centering feed at the top of the crease on the power play 50 seconds in. At 1:25, Donny Grover fired home his first AHL point with a goal from the top of the slot that found its way through traffic. Providence outshot Lowell after that by a 7-3 margin, but the Monsters held on for the victory and improved to 4-1-0-1 against the Bruins.
The Monsters hit the road for the next five games and return to face the Bruins on Saturday, January 14th. The first 2,500 fans will get a Lock Monsters winter cap, courtesy of TD Banknorth. It's also Locks of Love night, and Fantastic Sam's will be on hand trimming hair and collecting donations for Locks of Love - a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
