Roy, Healey Named AHL All-Star Captains

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced today that Jimmy Roy of the Manitoba Moose and Eric Healey of the Providence Bruins will serve as playing captains for the 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic in Winnipeg, Man.
Captains for the American Hockey League All-Star teams are selected by the league in recognition of their outstanding service and leadership to the AHL.
Making his first career AHL All-Star Classic appearance, forward Jimmy Roy has been the face of the Manitoba Moose since joining the franchise in 1997. He has recorded 97 goals and 106 assists for 203 points in 569 career regular-season games with the Moose, the only professional team he has ever skated for. In 2003, Roy won the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award as the American Hockey League's Man of the Year for his community service efforts in the Winnipeg community.
A native of Sioux Lookout, Ont., the 30-year-old Roy will captain the Canadian AHL All-Star team.
Through Tuesday, Eric Healey has registered 313 points (156 goals, 157 assists) in 399 career American Hockey League contests with the Providence Bruins, Chicago Wolves, Manchester Monarchs, Springfield Falcons and Saint John Flames, and currently leads the Bruins in scoring with 15 goals and 31 points in 26 games in 2005-06. Healey played in the 2002 AHL All-Star Classic, and in 2002-03, he led the AHL with 42 goals and was a co-winner of the AHL's Fred T. Hunt Award for sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey. An eighth-year pro from Hull, Mass., the 30-year-old forward made his National Hockey League debut with Boston on Nov. 25, 2005.
Healey will captain the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team.
Previous players honored as AHL All-Star team captains include Brad Tiley, Craig Darby, Travis Richards, John Slaney, Randy Cunneyworth, Ken Gernander, Peter Laviolette, John Stevens and Jody Gage.
Of the 364 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 93 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Pavol Demitra, Rick DiPietro, Patrik Elias, Miikka Kiprusoff, Kari Lehtonen, Ryan Miller, Martin St. Louis, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal and Steve Sullivan.
The 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, home of the AHL's Manitoba Moose, and will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League. The event gets underway on Tuesday, January 31, with the 2006 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (CT). The annual All-Star Game follows at 7:00 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday, February 1, and will be televised live in North America.
