Grand Rapids, MI - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights scored two third-period goals but fell one goal short of a comeback, losing 5-4 to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena. The Knights are winless in their last five games.

The Knights got off to a good start when Dave Moss tapped home the rebound of a shot by Carsen Germyn just 63 seconds into the game.

The Griffins would reply with a pair of powerplay goals. First, Eric Manlow scored on a five-on-three and then Bryan Helmer tallied on the ensuing five-on-four to put Grand Rapids up 2-1.

The Knights evened the game just 1:21 later when Tomi Maki converted a feed from Mark Giordano for a powerplay goal to make it 2-2. But Tomas Kopecky answered 53 seconds later to put the Griffins up 3-2 after one.

Grand Rapids would stretch its lead to 5-2 in the second period with goals from Kyle Quincey early and Donald MacLean on a powerplay late.

The Knights would not go away in the third period, getting powerplay goals from Warren Peters at 10:33 and then one from Giordano with just 3:16 to go. Brandon Prust assisted on both goals. But the Knights ran out of time, and the Griffins held on for the 5-4 win, their third win in three tries against the Knights.

The Knights are now 13-14-1-7. They return home on Friday for their first home game in more than a week. They'll host the Milwaukee Admirals at seven o'clock. They'll finish the week and the month on Saturday night when they visit the Iowa Stars for a 7:35 p.m. face-off.

Tickets for all home games are on sale at the Civic Auditorium box office, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday from noon through game time and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 422-1212 or at Ticketmaster.com.
