Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - Crunch forward Mark Hartigan scored a hat trick to lead Syracuse to a 4-2 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs on Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum. The Crunch scored three times in the final period to earn the victory. It was the second straight loss for the Bulldogs, whose record drops to 12-21-0-2.
Syracuse took a 1-0 lead with only 11 seconds left in the first period while playing with the man advantage. Mark Hartigan took a pass from Jamie Pushor at the right side of the net and roofed the puck over Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis' shoulder.
The Bulldogs tied the game at 1-1 just 1:51 into the second period when Jonathan Ferland drove hard to the net and slipped the puck under Andrew Penner's pad. The goal was scored with a delayed penalty coming to the Crunch.
With Hamilton playing shorthanded, Andrei Kostitsyn scored his seventh goal of the season and team-leading second shorthanded marker to give the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead. Kostitsyn took a clearing pass from inside the Syracuse zone, faked Penner out of position and wrapped the puck around the net and into the goal.
Just 1:00 into the third period, the Crunch tied the game at 2-2. Greg Mauldin fired a wrist shot from the slot over Danis' blocker for his seventh goal of the season.
Syracuse took a 3-2 lead with 5:30 remaining in the third period when Hartigan scored his second goal of the game. Hartigan took a feed from behind the net and one-timed a shot past Danis.
Hartigan's third goal of the night at 19:48, with Danis on the bench in favour of an extra attacker, rounded out the scoring.
Danis blocked 18 shots, while Penner made 24 saves. Hamilton was 0 for 6 on the power play, while Syracuse was 1 for 6.
Hamilton's next action will take place on Thursday, December 29 when the Rochester Americans return to Copps Coliseum for the second time in less than a week. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Copps Coliseum Box Office (in-person sales only), any Ticketmaster outlet, online at ticketmaster.ca, or at Sports Obsession in Jackson Square,
